GITS & SHIGGLES COMEDY PRESENTS:

STEWART FRANCIS

‘With Francis it’s all about puns… He’ll fill every minute with comedy bargains in the form of non-stop quick-fire gags, rarely giving you time to cease giggling until the next one starts… Quite simply, the service Francis provides is good old-fashioned joke telling with a hook, punch-line and a dose of panache thrown in for good measure’ (Warwick Arts Centre)

‘A brilliant comic brain… this stand-up cracks some of the best one liners I’ve
ever heard’ (The Guardian)

‘Perfectly crafted gags’ (The Sunday Times)

EASTEND CABARET
Winners of Best Cabaret show at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe, EastEnd Cabaret have become a critically acclaimed sensation since their debut show The Revolution will be Sexual in 2011. Creators of songs that are “gleefully filthy” (Edinburgh Spotlight), they have toured the world and received a host of four and five star reviews. On TV they have appeared on BBC3’s Live at the Electric with Russell Kane. Making their third Gits and Shiggles appearance, EastEnd Cabaret always bring the roof of the Half Moon down (not literally – we wouldn’t book them if that happened)

IMPROVISERS: ASSEMBLE – 6 DEC & GOLDEN TICKET OFFER

Improvisers assemble

Gits and Shiggles, in association with Heroes Grotto of Comedy, is proud to announce an exciting evening of some of the best improv London has to offer in an exciting pop-up venue at the heart of the city.

The line-up includes:

SHOWSTOPPER! THE IMPROVISED MUSICAL

A sell-out Edinburgh show since 2008, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical includes incredible, moving story-lines, amazing songs, full group harmonies, dance numbers. It’s also very funny to watch.

“They truly are the masters of longform improvisation. These guys have to be seen to be believed! The best musical improvisation group we’ve ever come across. More TALENT on stage than you can shake a stick at!” Time Out

“A joyous, uproarious collaboration … for sheer madcappery, refreshingly wholesome, good-natured musical slapstick, The Sticking Place’s musical high-wire act is hard to beat.” Independent on Sunday – 5/5

“Just SUBLIME… Consistently funny… This bunch are sharp. Anyone with a love for musicals or comedy should see this show and help create another classic.” Scotsman

CARIAD AND PAUL

A total sell out at Edinburgh Fringe 2013/14, this completely spontaneous improv adventure takes one word from the audience and immerses them in a bespoke world of bizarre scenes and bold characters.

International improv veterans Cariad Lloyd (Cardinal Burns, E4; The Cariad Show, BBC3; Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer Nominee) and Paul Foxcroft (Drifters, E4) are “the slickest in the business” (Chortle). Join them as they fuse comedy and heart-wrenching drama into a heady mixture of absurdity, tragedy and pure delight.

STEPHEN FROST’S IMPROV ALLSTARS

Three brave performers arrive with no script and not the faintest idea of what will happen. Willed on by a supportive crowd (that’s you!), through improvisation they create sketches and comic dramas that are amazingly inventive and sometimes take off into flights of surreal brilliance.

Stephen Frost’s Improv Allstars grew out of the popular TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway? and the Allstars troupe has played festivals all over the world. Stephen Frost has been part of hit TV shows such as Saturday Live, The Young Ones and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Stephen has also acted in Blackadder and in Mr Bean Rides Again in addition to performing at many Edinburgh Festivals and acting on the stages of the West End.

UPSTAIRS DOWNTON

Fresh from a sell-out run at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe, Upstairs Downton improvise a new spoof of early 20th century period dramas such as Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs, entirely based on audience suggestions.

Just like on the telly. Only made up.

WE’RE BACK

Greetings shigglers.

We enjoyed our summer sojourn to Scotland, making sure we said all our proper goodbyes before the country detaches itself tomorrow and floats off to join Scandanavia, and what an excellent amount of comedy we saw there too.

And we’re bringing some of the best acts we saw up there to Putney and Angel over the next three months, combining them with the talent that stayed in London for the summer for a truly tremendous programme of events – maybe out best yet!

Over the next few months we’ve got performances from 4 of the nominees for Best Show at this year’s Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards, 2 of the Best Newcomer nominees, plus tremendous acts such as Pappys, Max and Ivan, Joseph Morpurgo, Bec Hill and Stewart Lee.

And we kick things off with some panache at The Half Moon, Putney

Arthur Smith

Arthur Smith has become one of comedy’s elder statesmen: an Edinburgh Fringe stalwart and a club compere since the early days of the alternative scene. He’s also become a regular on Radios 2 and 4, one of TV’s Grumpy Old Men, and a writer whose best-known work is the World Cup play An Evening With Gary Lineker.

He has long been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he was instrumental in many of the pranks played by his late friend Malcolm Hardee, and his raucous late-night tours of the town became legendary for their high jinks, if not their historical accuracy. His Fringe shows include Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen, and Arthur Smith’s Last Hangover, about his being forced to go teetotal after he nearly died from pancreatitis. Both were subsequently broadcast on Radio 4, where he is also a frequent guest on such shows as Excess Baggage and Loose Ends. On Radio 2 he has presented the long-running Smith Lectures, linking together clips from other comedians.

As well as the Olivier-nominated An Evening with Gary Lineker, which he co-created with Chris England, Smith’s other plays include 1989’s Live Bed Show, which starred Caroline Quentin and Paul Merton and ran at the Donmar Warehouse.

ANDREW LAWRENCE/ ALEX EDELMAN DOUBLE EDINBURGH PREVIEW

In our last Half Moon show of the season, we welcome the caustic stand-up Andrew Lawrence and up and coming US comic Alex Edelman.

ANDREW LAWRENCE

lawrence5

Gits and Shiggles presents an Edinburgh preview by the fantastic Andrew Lawrence, as seen on LIVE AT THE APOLLO, MICHAEL MCINTYRE’S COMEDY ROADSHOW, STAND UP FOR THE WEEK, DAVE’S ONE NIGHT STAND and ASK RHOD GILBERT.

Andrew presented his first hour-long comedy show at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe entitled How to Butcher your Loved Ones. It was nominated for the Edinburgh Award for Best Newcomer. He has returned to the Fringe every year since then and become an established name on the circuit and TV.

His university debut led on to the Edinburgh fringe, where he was runner up in the 2003 So You Think You’re Funny competition. Subsequent wins of the Amused Moose Starsearch, York Comedy Festival New Act of the Year Competition and the BBC’s New Act of the Year Competition confirmed him as an emerging talent on the UK comedy scene.

“A hard act to follow.” – Chortle.

“It’s a joy to be in his contemptuous company” – The Times

“If comedy could be translated into music, Andrew Lawrence’s show would sound, like Tchaikovsky, all grandiose, overwrought cadences descending into glorious despair” – The Scotsman

ALEX EDELMAN

edelman3

Alex Edelman is a New York-based comedian who has lived in L.A., Boston, and Jerusalem. He’s a recent college graduate, and according to the Boston Globe, he has “natural comic timing” and contains qualities “wonderful to see in a young comedian.” A few years ago, he was showcased as one of New York’s best comedians under 25. He is now 25.
