Lancashire born Tez started comedy in 2010 and hit the ground running, finding himself in no less than eight competition finals, including the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award. JAY FOREMAN

Jay Foreman is a guitarist/comedian whose unique repetoire falls almost exactly halfway between live music and sit-down comedy. Flitting violently between subtle humour, catchy singalongs and mindless bad taste, Jay is drawing considerable attention even from people who aren’t students anymore.

BBC New Talent Pick of the Fringe, ‘best newcomer’ at the Tuborg Musical Comedy Awards 2009 and ‘finalist’ at the Musical Comedy Awards 2010. One of his songs is covered and played regularly by muscial comedy veterans Kit and the Widow. Jay can’t decide whether he’s happy about being known on youtube as the guy who wrote ‘Moon Chavs’.

DAVE GREEN

Dave Green has been doing stand-up comedy since 2011. Since then his surreal one liners and deadpan delivery have fast proved popular with audiences and promoters alike. In 2013 he won the wild card vote in the BBC New Comedy Award securing him a place in the semi final which was broadcast on BBC Radio 2. In 2014 he was nominated by a panel of industry professionals to take part in the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year. He is also a finalist in the Leicester Square New Comedian 2012 and is the winner of the Max Turner Award 2012.

IMRAN YUSUF

 

Imran Yusuf is renowned for his stinging, lyrical street-slang verbiage and super-high energy performance. Fast and furious yet charmingly endearing, his is a unique voice in the comedy world.

 

In 2010, Imran presented his debut solo show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The show, An Audience with Imran Yusuf, was part of the Laughing Horse Free Festival where he gained many 5 star reviews, which led to him being nominated for Best Newcomer in the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award 2010 (He was the first performer from The Free Festival to be nominated in the history of the Awards). All of this whilst fasting between sunrise and sunset in observation of Ramadan.

 

Imran’s TV debut was also made shortly after the festival appearing on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC1) and the Edinburgh Comedy Fest (BBC3) broadcast in September 2010.

 

Imran has completed two UK tours with his solo shows “An Audience with Imran Yusuf” and “Bring The Thunder”, and is now working on a third solo show for debut at the Edinburgh Festival in the near future. Having already delivered “The Imran Yusuf Show” TV pilot to the BBC and with new TV and radio projects currently in development.

Lindsay began her comedy career in 2009. After reaching the finals of the 2010 Funny Women awards, she took two shows to the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe – Giants Of Comedy and A Time Traveller’s Guide to Surviving Childhood as part of the Free Fringe. She now performs in character as Madame Magenta and as The Poet and will be taking her first solo show to Edinburgh in 2014 Lindsay was a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year 2013, finalist in the Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian Of 2013 and finalist in the Funny Women Award 2010.

13th May 2014, the day before 70th Birthday of George Lucas, the man behind the iconic films Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (and the not-so-iconic films The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and erm… Howard the Duck), sees Gits and Shiggles, the Time Out Critics’ Choice comedy night, celebrate by bringing to Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club an evening of Star Wars inspired silliness, songs and stupidity, featuring some of London’s best comedy talent, including:

Marek Larwood is one third of Perrier nominated sketch act We Are Klang (along with Greg Davies and Steve Hall), who starred in their own BBC3 series.

He has appeared on BBC’s Extras, Fast and Loose, I’m Sorry I’ve Got No Head and Hyperdrive and the Mitchaell and Webb film Magicians.

He currently co-hosts BBC3′s Impractical Jokers alongside Paul McCaffrey, Joel Dommett and Rosin Conaty.

Cariad and Paul

Cariad Lloyd and Paul Foxcroft are two of the countries top improvisers and character comedians.

Cariad is part of the 2014 Chortle Award winning Austentatious, was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2011 Fosters Edinburgh Awards and recorded her own BBC pilot, The Cariad Show. She has appeared in E$ sketch shoe Cardinal Burns as well as Newsjack, Here Be Dragons, The Guns of Adam Riches and The Now Show on BBC Radio 4.

Paul Foxcroft was a finalist in the Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival script writing competition and has written for TV and radio in Canada. He is a cast member of the award winning improv show Monkey Toast and a guest cast member of the Chortle Award winning Austentatious. His TV credits include E4′s Drifters.

As one third of sketch royalty The Penny Dreadfuls, has written and performed 5 series for BBC Radio 4. They have also collected over thirty 5 star reviews. On TV he has played Peter Cook in Frankie Howard: Rather You Than Me and appeared in BBC2′s Fast and Loose. Since October 2011 he has co-hosted the film podcast Film Fandango with Danielle ward and Marek Larwood.

John Henry Falle

Part of sketch titans The Beta Males, John Henry is taking his first solo show, The Story Beast, to the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe. With the Beta Males he has taken part in four sell our runs at the Edinburgh Fringe an accumulated more five star reviews than you can shake a stick at. They have also appeared on Radio 4′s Sketchorama.

Another Beta Male, Richard Soames is also taking his first solo show to Edinburgh this year. As well as successful five star runs and appearing on Radio 4 with the Beta Males, Richard is also a member of David Shore’s acclaimed Chicago style improv troupe The Monkey Toast Players.

Andrew Lawrence

Andrew presented his first hour-long comedy show at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe entitled How to Butcher your Loved Ones. It was nominated for the if.comeddie award (as it was known for that year only) for Best Newcomer. He has returned to the Fringe every year since then and become an established name on the circuit and TV.

His university debut led on to the Edinburgh fringe, where he was runner up in the 2003 So You Think You’re Funny competition. Subsequent wins of the Amused Moose Starsearch, York Comedy Festival New Act of the Year Competition and the BBC’s New Act of the Year Competition confirmed him as an emerging talent on the UK comedy scene.

Gits and Shiggles is launching a brand new night on Friday March 7th at The Islington in Angel.

We’re very excited to be setting up shop north of the river, and the night has been recommended by Time Out. Looking at the line-up, it’s hardly surprising.

Headlining we have the fantastic Shappi Khorsandi, as seen on pretty much every major TV comedy show (Live at the Apollo, QI, Have I Got News For You, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow et al)

We’ve also got the stunning talents of Luisa Omielan, Pat Cahill, Mark Stephenson, Joz Norris and Stuart Laws (MC)

Welcome to our brand spanking new website. It’s a bit of a work in progress at the moment, but stay tuned over the coming weeks and months as it becomes a dizzying interactive experience reminiscent of the film Tron
